Mumbai, December 29: According to a latest research done by German scientists, custom-designed music therapy can contribute in reducing noise levels in people suffering from a condition of the ears – called tinnitus, or ear ringing.
Tinnitus, commonly seen in people living in urban areas, can affect a person’s quality of life with the ear-ringing being loud enough to damage your hearing ability.
The researchers said patients who listened to these "notched" musical therapies for around a year reported a distinct decrease in the loudness of ringing in their ears.
Tinnitus, is however, not the only condition that music therapy can help ease. Music therapy is part of alternative medicine that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of individuals of all ages, suffering from disability or some illness. With autistic children, who are generally difficult to deal with therapeutically, for instance, music therapy is a useful intervention. Autistic children seem to show unusual sensitivity and respond well to interventions designed with music.
Research in the past has also pointed that conditions such as cancer, high blood pressure, surgery, labor pain, Alzheimer's disease and other age related conditions, substance abuse problems and brain injuries respond well to music therapy.
Music therapy finds its greatest use as a tool for stress relief. For many of us, listening to music after a hard day’s work is an easy way to unwind from stress.
